QuickBooks 2008 Released
Margaret Gow, GrowthForce's Leading Certified ProAdvisor, Explains How the New
Version is a Must Have
2008 QuickBooks is Here! This is great news if you are a QuickBooks Pro user. Pro now has features that previously were only available in Premier or above. Pro users receive a 6 month free subscription to Remote Access to QuickBooks for up to 2 computers. Pro now has access to Time Tracker - an online timesheet entry utility that allows billable timekeepers to enter time by logging into a secure website. All editions of Premier can use Time Tracker as well.
But the best news for all versions is the improved integration with Microsoft Outlook. QuickBooks Pro and above allow you to send QuickBooks reports and forms like Invoices, Purchase Orders and Sales Receipts using Outlook or Outlook Express. There is a new preference to choose whether to use QuickBooks or Outlook when you send. There are many benefits to using this new email method:
- No need to log into Intuit Business Services to send email so the whole process is much faster.
- You can track invoices in the “Sent” folder within Outlook or Outlook Express
- You can attach additional documents before you send
- You can add flags to the email
- You can add more than one cc and/or Bcc address.
Scholarship Winners Announced
Local High School Students Honored with 2007 GrowthForce
Accounting Scholarship Awards.
Two students selected from Humble ISD high schools were honored with the 2007 GrowthForce Accounting Scholarship award. The recipients, Britney Dornak of Humble High School and Kelsey Witmer of Kingwood High School, were recognized in a ceremony at the Houston CPA Society.
The students are the latest participants in a program started by
Stephen King, chair of the Northeast Satellite of the Houston CPA
Society. After both students completed their high school requirements and
began their college careers, they received $500 in tuition to their respective universities.
Since the program was established, more than two dozen students from Fayette County high schools have participated in this scholarship program. Applicants for scholarship had to meet a multitude of requirements including grade-point average
and educational achievement.
The new recipients are both beginning their freshman year to earn their degrees
in accounting. Jamal Mashburn (1991-93) started the scholarship just days after declaring himself eligible for the 1993 NBA Draft and before signing his first professional basketball contract. The $500,000 endowment directly benefits young people in the Lexington community. With recent revisions to the program, students will now be awarded scholarships annually, instead of every two years.
